Recent research out of Japan shows that statins actually increase calcification of arteries! The mechanism of action has been revealed – and looks to be directly related to statin imposed depletion of not only CoQ10 – but also of vitamin K2. It is therefore absolutely critical that everyone who is in treatment with statin intervention consume adequate levels of CoQ10 and vitamin K2. The good news? Both are available in supplement form – and are readily available from many manufacturers. CoQ10 is known to be cardio-protective, and getting enough K2 will ensure that calcium finds its way to your bones and teeth – so your soft tissues remain clear and you build stronger bones. Read the original research abstract here.

There is an incredible youtube interview of Dr. Dennis Goodman, a double board-certified cardiologist, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Integrative Medicine at NYU which dives deep into the many benefits of vitamin K2. I encourage interested parties to spend some time reviewing this video interview and get to know a little more about this critical nutrient.
