An Update on Greg Melendy - 6/6/09
On January 13, 2009, Greg received his bone marrow transplant.
He spent close to 5 months at the
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. He was then transferred to the Dominican Rehabilitation Center near his home in Santa Cruz for a little over a week. His bout with drug induced neuropathy is improving and his ability to speak and eat is returning. He was finally able to go home on 5/30/09, just before I ran my San Diego Half Marathon in his honor. Our hope is that his steady improvement continues ever quicker in a more familiar and comfortable setting.
At the end of his treatment, Greg will have gone from being of
an O- blood type to an A+, and he will likely be allergic to cats.
Apparently, you take on certain physical characteristics of
the donor - namely with regard to allergies and blood type.
Updates will be posted regularly. Please visit often.
